On Friday, October 18th 2019, Brittany woke up in excruciating pain and immediately went to the ER. After a twelve hour wait, they finally admitted her and she was seen by a doctor where they performed various tests. Preliminary results were shocking. The doctors found a softball size lesion on Brittany’s liver which they suspected was a malignant tumor. After a long weekend in the hospital without any clear indication of what could possibly be causing all of her pain, a biopsy of the liver was performed on Monday morning. Brittany’s pain was so unbearable that the doctors kept her on intravenous morphine to tolerate her pain levels until the results were in. After five long days, Brittany, at age 30, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cholangiocarcinoma that metastasized to her liver. Cholangiocarcinoma is a very rare form of cancer that less than 8,000 people are diagnosed with every year. It is mainly prevalent in people ages 65 and older. As you can imagine, Brittany was devastated by this tragic news. Her treatment will be aggressive and will include chemotherapy, surgery and radiation.

Almost everyone knows someone that has been directly affected by cancer and for those of you familiar with this horrible disease, you’ll understand how difficult the journey may be for her.
