Hi everyone,
I'm reaching out on behalf of my beautiful little sister, Brittany Short. She’s just 36 years old, and right now, she’s in the fight of her life against stage 4 ovarian cancer.
This isn’t the first time cancer has touched our family. Our mother battled breast cancer for six long years before it returned in her bones. We lost her in 2004. Before that, our grandmother lost her own battle with esophageal cancer. It breaks my heart to think that if the technology and treatments available today had existed back then, maybe my sister and I could still have those two amazing women with us.
But today, I still have Brittany and selfishly, I want to keep her for as long as I can.
Her diagnosis has been devastating. The cancer has spread throughout her body, affecting vital organs like her left lung, which keeps filling with fluid. It’s already been drained twice. On top of that, she’s now battling blood clots, making even minor injuries a serious risk due to the blood thinners she’s on.
Even with the best insurance we can afford, the costs of life-saving treatments, surgeries, and medications are overwhelming. And the emotional toll is something I can’t even begin to put into words. Our father, who already endured the loss of our mother, is breaking under the weight of it all. I worry about his health every single day, but I’m only one person and I can only do so much.
Brittany has so much more life to live. She’s the loving “mom” to two once-stray cats who never leave her side. She has two little nephews she adores and dreams of watching grow up. She wants to live. She wants to fight. But she needs help.
If you can find it in your heart to donate even a few dollars it could mean the world to our family. Every bit helps ease the financial burden and gives Brittany a better shot at not just surviving… but beating this horrible disease.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting.
With love and hope,
Danielle Short
