Maya Angelou, a legendary author, actress, and poet once quoted
“CHOOSE YOUR BATTLES WISELY BECAUSE IF YOU FIGHT THEM ALL YOU’LL BE TOO TIRED TO WIN THE REALLY IMPORTANT ONES”
Unfortunately in life some come across battles that seem impossible to bear. Brittany went from a few months of not feeling well, antibiotics that gave minimal relief, blood work that wasn't alarming to a cough that caused her to lose her voice. During an ENT appointment, a nasopharynx scope on Brittany showed that she had a left sided paralyzed vocal cord that warranted a CT scan of her head and chest. The results of the CT scan signified the beginning of Brittany’s cancer battle.
Brittany was diagnosed on Oct. 19, 2020 with a stage 3 malignant 13x8x7cm mass in her chest called Primary Mediastinal Large B cell Lymphoma involving her aorta, superior vena cava, esophagus, lungs, and blood vessels in her heart. She was immediately taken from SJMC to UH main campus and put in the Cardiac ICU where she received two blood transfusions. Afterwards, 660cc of fluids were drained from around her heart (Pericardial effusion). Due to the location of the mass on her heart, she is unable to have a normal PIC line and instead has to repeat the expensive procedure of inserting a femoral line to deliver her chemo for each of her 4 out of 6 remaining treatments. Her treatments consist of in-patient chemo (5 day hospital stay where she receives chemo 24/7) and outpatient chemo the day after each cycle. She also has to go for bloodwork twice a week to determine if any additional transfusions are needed.
Brittany is strong and determined to fight the fight that lies ahead of her. Of course no one is prepared for the diagnosis she was given, especially for a 27 yr. old young lady who’s dreams of buying her first home and putting on her big girl panties have come crashing down on her as she tries to not only beat this cancer but to also beat the financial burden that could shatter her dreams. So many of you have asked “How can I help” ~ “What can I do” Well… Humbling enough as it is, this GoFundMe is to help inspire Brittany that her dreams are still possible through the love, concern, caring, and giving through the hearts of all of you in times of despair. May she continue to stay strong in her darkest moments and may she continue her amazing sense of humor which gives her family unknown strength as they watch her trudge through each day, each blood draw, each scan, each moment of nausea, pain and weakness. Brittany is truly a courageous young lady!!
