Brittany Roman, 32; Help Needed After Heart Attack
Donation protected
Our sister Brittany is a loving and genuinely beautiful woman inside and out. She is an amazing mother to a precious little boy, Jack. Brittany is also a wife, daughter, sister, and friend to so many who love and adore her. At 32 years old, on the evening of October 10th, 2020, she suffered an anxiety induced heart attack that lead to a cascade of events that none of us could have ever imagined. Throughout this process, she has battled her way through numerous events that the average person would not be expected to survive from. Because of COVID-19, her husband Louis and her family have not been able to be by her side. She is truly a fighter with strength and bravery beyond measure. Her recovery is continuing in the hospital and her battle is far from over.
Brittany will be out of work for an undetermined amount of time while she continues to heal. The medical bills are adding up and daily living expenses do not take a break. We are asking for your help in any way possible...no gesture and/or amount is too small.
This has been a very emotional time for all her family and close friends, but we rejoice in the miracles that have happened so far. Thank you everyone for your prayers, positive thoughts, and good vibes during this time. We appreciate all of them more than you'll ever know. If you are able, please share and spread awareness of Brittany’s story to your family and friends.
Brittany’s Story:
On October 10th, 2020, Brittany was rushed to the emergency room via ambulance having chest pain, shortness of breath, and vomiting along with pain and numbness down her left arm. After multiple tests, they diagnosed her episode as a heart attack, and she was admitted to the hospital for further evaluation. They determined that she needed a heart catheter procedure done to find the potential cause of the problem. As they were preparing her for the procedure, she coded and her heart stopped beating for several minutes. Resuscitation procedures, including CPR, were provided to keep her alive. Once they started the procedure, one of her main heart vessels, the aorta, spontaneously ruptured causing heavy internal bleeding. Her damaged aorta was able to be fixed, but the doctor determined that she would need immediate open-heart surgery. She was brought to the operating room where she coded again. They performed CPR for several minutes before the surgeon emergently opened her chest and found significant damage to the left side of her heart. After many hours in surgery, the doctor was able to successfully repair her heart and she was sent to critical care in a medically induced coma to recover. They had her on passive cooling to help preserve her brain function, gave her multiple units of blood, and administered several medications to keep her stable. The course of letting her heart heal enough to decrease her sedation and wake her up was a slow and delicate process. During that time, Brittany was not making eye contact or any direct responses so they performed a CT Scan and an MRI. The results showed scattered areas of damaged tissue in her brain and suggested she had also suffered 2 strokes during the time she was unconscious.
On the morning of October 17th, they were finally able to wake Brittany up safely and effectively. The big hurdles now are regaining strength and learning how to eat, drink, walk, and perform regular activities again. On October 23rd, Brittany was moved to an inpatient rehab facility to continue the ongoing physical, speech, and occupational therapy she needs to get her strong enough to go home. When she is able to return home, she will continue to need full time care for several weeks. Your continued prayers, along with any donations and well wishes you can offer, are more than appreciated by Brittany, her husband Louis, and her sweet baby Jack. Thank you for taking the time to read and share Brittany’s story. Stay well and blessings to you all!
With Love,
