On Tuesday, October 30th, Brittany was involved in a horrific car accident. While driving home, a deer ran in front of her car. She attempted to swerve to avoid hitting it, but the Jeep Wrangler she was driving was too top-heavy. Instead, the car flipped and sent her body crashing forward into the windshield.
Through divine intervention, a police officer was nearby responding to another accident (another driver had hit a deer on the opposite side of the road) Brittany was able to receive immediate attention. She was transported immediately to the trauma/ICU unit at Vanderbilt. She arrived with a broken neck, a broken nose, broken back, 4 broken ribs, a broken ankle and a split tongue.

After medical personnel cast her ankle and stitched the multiple lacerations on her face, Brittany was placed in traction. For over 36 hours, Brittany lay with screws bolted into the sides of her head, and weight constantly pulling her neck and lower back, keeping her stable until the doctors could perform surgery.

Two days after the accident, doctors were finally able to address her broken neck. They drilled into her sternum, and used plates and screws to correct the four broken vertebrae in her neck. A metal plate was used to connect and stabilize her C7 and T1 vertebrae.
After another day in ICU, Brittany was moved to a patient room to begin her long road to recovery. Brittany will need to undergo many months of physical therapy and occupational therapy to learn to walk again. She will also endure more surgeries to correct her broken nose and remaining injuries.

Despite the looming months ahead, Brittany has remained her positive and upbeat self. She cracked jokes with the nurses and her visitors and counts herself extremely blessed to be alive. Her strength and determination has been nothing short of miraculous.
Many are reaching out with a desire and heart to help. Although no one can heal for Brittany, we can help provide her financial peace throughout her recovery. Throughout her healing, we are asking for donations to relieve the financial stress of such a traumatic life altering event. Brittany works two jobs to support herself and her almost two year old daughter. Doctors and nurses are unsure when she will be able to return work, which has taken a financial toll on her family. You are welcome to donate to Brittany's Road to Recovery here or stop by the office of Dr William Jones for additional ways to support Brittany and her family.
