Britt Jones medical expenses

"As you may have heard, Britt Jones, a very good friend of our mountaineering community, was injured on a recent training climb for the CMC on June 6th, leading 4 team members up Dead Dog Couloir which is located on Torreys Peak.  After 3 ½ hours they took a short break on an outcropping at 13,300 ft before starting self-belay practice using their pickets.  As the 2nd picket was being placed, and 4 of the team members were on the rock, breaking rock was heard from above and “Rock!” was screamed out.  Two people were exposed and immediately sought shelter, while the other three, one being Britt, were lower, somewhat sheltered and they hunkered down.  The rock fall lasted about 30 seconds as numerous rocks of various sizes were flying down the couloir. The event was so powerful, it started an avalanche just below the climbing party.  One rock hit Britt on the forehead and nose.  His helmet saved his life, but the impact was so great that he suffered neck and spinal cord trauma.  He had to go to the ER to receive a through medical exam with lots of tests.  There will be months of follow up medical visits to insure Britt heals properly and does not have any permanent damage.  His bills have already exceeded his financial threshold.  In the past, when he’s had a medical issue, he usually forgoes the formal treatment route opting for self-healing methods.  He needs our help in this expensive recovery.  He has given so much to our climbing community, now it’s time for us to help him."
