Hello, my name is Bobby, and I am currently studying an MA in Wildlife Filmmaking at the University of the West of England, Bristol. On the 15th of May I will be setting off to the north coast of Scotland to film my project, which is about Cetaceans in the UK and the people that are connected to them.
For the project, I will be attempting to film Orca in the wild at Sea Watch Foundation's 8th Annual Orca Watch Event. I hope to meet experts and enthusiasts from a diversity of backgrounds and tap into this unlikely and growing obsession within the UK. The connection people have to cetaceans, and the large whales in particular is often a spiritual one - Whales can touch people’s lives in such a way that they are totally consumed in seeing them and caring about their welfare.
Unfortunately, cetaceans are at risk of decreasing population sizes and even local extinction due to continuous threats to them and their habitats. These threats include capture and drowning in fishing gear, sound disturbance, marine pollution and over-fishing. Through film, I would like to communicate these issues and what people are doing to help.
I will be working closely with Sea Watch Foundation, and will also be cutting them a promotional film to aid publicity in their future projects.
In order to make this happen, I need some financial support, and would be grateful for a donation of any size. Proceeds will go towards transporting the crew up to the North coast of Scotland (near John O’Groats), access to boats, and camp site accommodation.
Thank you for taking the time to read my campaign and thank you in advance for any help!
