Surgery/ Current and Future Medical Expenses

On Thursday, November 3, 2022, at approximately 4 am, my seven-year-old son ran to my room awakened by vomiting. I popped out of bed startled. I asked British if he was ok, did he feel any pain, was his stomach hurting, and he replied, "No, he was ok." I told him to go to my bathroom located in my room to wipe his mouth as it still appeared wet from him vomiting. I overheard the tissue rack fall so I immediately rushed to my bathroom to make sure he was ok. As I walked closer to British, I noticed him slowly going down to the floor as he was losing control of his body. I immediately started to panic trying to figure out what was occurring in front of my face. I remember asking him, "Can you hear me, can you see me, are you feeling any pain." He responded, "yes I'm ok I'm just wiping my mouth." I asked him to stand up, and he said ok but was struggling because the left side of his body became completely numb at this point. I then started tearing up because I knew at that point something was wrong and I had no clue what was going on. British noticed the tears falling from my eyes, and continued to attempt to stand saying. "see mommy I'm standing" he was unaware he lost control of the left side of his body. I then called Al, British father to notify him what was occurring crying over the phone. He arrived in less than 5 mins. I then carried British to my bed ran to his room grabbed his clothes and we rushed him to the Emergency Room.

Please keep in mind, the details listed above transpired in less than five minutes. It happened so fast!

British, his dad, and I arrived at the hospital. The Nurse completed a quick exam on British and then suddenly yelled "Code.. within seconds British was on a stretcher being rushed to the trauma room surrounded by several doctors and they examined his body briefly, then sent him to get a CAT Scan, and shortly after that an MRI for a better understanding of what’s happening. After several tests and hours later, we found out British had a stroke due to bleeding and swelling in his brain. The doctors didn’t know if British had a brain tumor or an abnormal vessel that bled in his brain because the mass was covered with so much blood and swelling. We spent almost two weeks in the hospital, not only to be told our insurance is not acceptable here and the hospital reached their budget for free surgeries, but also, nothing can be done to save my son's life because of the location of what the neurosurgeon suspects is a brain tumor. After getting a second opinion, it has been confirmed British has a brain tumor.

As we all know, the cost of medical care can be catastrophic, not to mention the cost of ongoing care. We are seeking financial support for assistance with medical expenses (Surgery, Emergency Room bill, hospital stay charges, Rehabilitation hospital, and Medications) to get British back to life as he once knew.
