Hello Everyone,
I really hate to post something like this, but I’m in a desperate situation and don’t know where else to turn. I’m hoping someone here might have advice, know of any support options, or just point me in the right direction. Right now, I have zero finances to help myself and things are quickly getting worse.
Here’s a summary of what’s going on:
- I lost my job in 2024 due to redundancy, which led to major financial difficulties and falling behind on rent.
- After that, my landlord blacklisted me and got a travel ban imposed, which now stops me from renewing my visa, getting a job legally, or even leaving the country to look for other options.
- I was evicted last week. All of my belongings are now under execution by the Dubai Land Department and will be sold.
- My landlord raised the rent for 2024/2025 but never signed a new agreement. The signed cheques are still inside the apartment, and I’m scared they’ll be misused. A case was filed with the Rental
- Dispute Center using the wrong contact info for me, so I only found out about it right at the end.
- I tried again and again to settle things with my landlord. I even told him I’ve secured financial help that will be available in 3 weeks, but he went ahead with execution anyway—now I owe even more due to legal and admin fees. I have proof of all my efforts to resolve this.
- I’m a mum and while my children are with their dad right now, he’s now threatening to leave the country with them permanently.
- I can’t afford a lawyer to fight this, and I’m terrified I’ll lose my children.
- I’ve been staying with a friend, but I have to leave by the end of this week and have nowhere else to go. I don’t have a single dirham to secure a place.
- I also have some serious health issues that need medical attention.
What I’ve already done:
- I’ve contacted the British Embassy. They can’t help financially, but referred me to BCAF. BCAF tried to mediate with my landlord but it didn’t help.
- I’ve applied for pro bono legal help (a few rejections so far) and time is running out with Eid coming up.
- I’ve been actively applying for jobs and still have interviews lined up, but I keep losing opportunities because of my visa status. I was hoping to pay the outstanding rent once funds arrive and get the ban lifted, but the extra fees have made that impossible for now.
I know Facebook isn’t the usual place for something like this, but if anyone has any advice, contacts, or ideas—legal support, emergency housing, anything—I’d be deeply grateful. Please feel free to DM me as well.
Thanks so much for reading
