My name is Sophia, I’m 16, and I’m fundraising for British Exploring. I’ve been given the opportunity to take part in expeditions to North Wales and Knoydart, Scotland—experiences that are as much about personal growth as they are about exploration.

What draws me to this is the challenge. It’s not just about travelling, but about pushing myself beyond what feels comfortable, building resilience, and learning how to cope in unfamiliar situations. I want to develop the confidence to keep going even when things feel difficult, and to come back stronger from it.

British Exploring really stood out to me because it supports young people in doing exactly that—growing through challenge. I’m not doing this because it’s easy, but because I know it will help me understand myself better and see what I’m capable of.

I’ve always been curious about the world, and these expeditions feel like a real way to experience it, not just learn about it. In the future, I hope to follow a path where I can keep exploring, learning, and sharing knowledge with others.
