Brit's Top Surgery

My name is Brit, and I’ve identified as a trans man since I was 12. I never felt comfortable in my body, especially when I started female puberty. I got extremely depressed around my period but didn’t understand why. My depression and anxiety got worse when I had to change in the girls' locker room for PE in sixth grade. The following year I finally figured myself after finding out about the transgender community online. It felt like everything was suddenly clearer when I saw myself in forums of people discussing this thing called “dysphoria”. Since coming out, I’ve felt so much more comfortable in my own skin. It’s still not perfect, but it’s improved greatly over the years. I’ve been on testosterone for over a year and I’m so happy from the results. 

Unfortunately, the only roadblock in the way feels like top surgery. I’ve wanted top surgery since I figured out my identity in middle school. I deal with chronic back pain from wearing a binder almost every day, along with constant dysphoria. I would love to get top surgery in the near future, but there’s no way I’d be able to afford it. My insurance will not cover it in any way, and I don't currently have the money to cover the costs. Top surgery would greatly improve my quality of life and while I am comfortable in my identity, I want to be able to feel comfortable in my own body as well. Getting top surgery would help me feel like my body is truly mine, and any support is greatly appreciated.
