Help Briseyda become a teacher

Hi, my name is Briseyda Chay Cano, I’m the 7th child out of 10 siblings, I am 19 years old and I live in a small indigenous Maya town in the state of Yucatan, located in the south of Mexico.

Since I was a girl I volunteered in many groups teaching children, and I’ve helped out with research on how children learn, this has inspired me to become a teacher.

In my town women are normally not permitted to go to college because people believe that we should just get married, but my family doesn’t believe that. With the support of my parents and my siblings, I have been accepted to a university and have started my dream of becoming a teacher.

I am the first woman from my town to go to college, and this is an important achievement for me because if everything goes well I believe the opportunity will open for more women in my town to continue their studies.

For me to attend University I need to leave my town and move to the city where my university is. I’ll need to rent a room and buy a bicycle, pay for food, light, water, internet, and get my first computer. I’m asking for help to cover these costs. I'm hoping for your help to support me and show the women in my community that we can get an education too!

Hola mi nombre es Briseyda Chay Cano, soy la 7ma hija de 10 hermanos, tengo 19 años y vivo en una pequeña comunidad indígena maya en el estado de Yucatán ubicado en el sur de México.

Desde niña siempre he sobresalido por mi gran actitud de servicio, a mi tan corta edad he participado en muchos grupos apoyando en la enseñanza a niños, he apoyado a desarrollar investigaciones con niños y eso ha logrado llamar mi atención, por eso ahora quiero convertirme en una gran maestra.

En mi comunidad a las mujeres no se les permite seguir estudiando la universidad por que aun creen que solo servimos para ser esposas, sin embargo, mi familia no cree eso, con la ayuda de mis papas y mis hermanos he logrado entrar a la universidad para seguir mi sueño de ser maestra.

Seré la primera mujer de mi comunidad en ir a estudiar en la universidad, y eso representa un gran reto para mí porque creo que si las cosas salen bien voy a poder abrirle la oportunidad a mas mujeres de mi comunidad a seguir estudiando.

Actualmente para poder estudiar tendré que trasladarme a la ciudad donde está mi universidad, para ello tendré que rentar un cuarto, comprar un medio de transporte (una moto o una bicicleta), junto a ello tengo mas gastos de comida, luz, agua, internet y la posibilidad de tener mi primera computadora.

Por eso pido a todos los que tengan la posibilidad de apoyarme, pues la ayuda será un beneficio para mí y a las mujeres de mi comunidad, para que vean que también nosotras podemos.
