Hi, my name is Lauren and I am raising funds to help my former roomie, Brisa, continue her college education. Currently, there is legally no way for her to make enough money to stay in college.
Brisa is an amazing, outgoing, and fun-spirited young woman. She is a gifted vocalist and writer, and is fluent in six languages. While her parents are from Argentina and Brazil, Brisa has never lived in her home country. Growing up overseas, she has lived in many places including several states in India, Afghanistan, and Turkey. In August 2018, she boarded her first plane to America, which landed in Chicago where she began school at Moody Bible Institute. She is currently studying Human Services, which she plans to use to help counsel people overseas in closed societies, like her parents.
Because Brisa is here on a student Visa, there are limited hours she is allowed to legally work, and she can only work on her school campus for minimum wage. Her parents are not affiliated with an organization or church, and are unable to help her financially. If she were to put all the money earned from every hour she is legally allowed to work towards her tuition, she will still come up short $3,000, which is not factoring in living expenses.
Brisa took her situation to both the International Student Office and Financial Aid Center on her school campus numerous times. It was concluded that they could do nothing to help her and advised that she dropped out. If she did as advised, she would have to leave the country. Unfortunately that is not an option because her parents are moving to a dangerous country in the Middle East, which is not a safe option for a nineteen year old woman to stay.
My immediate goal is to raise $4,000, enough for Brisa to pay for the next year of college and minimal living expenses. Our ultimate goal is $27,000. Anything above that will go towards Brisa’s parents’ work for the Lord in the Middle East. Please consider donating to help Brisa continue her education to glorify our King.
