Hello! My name is Melanie, and I am going to China this summer with Bring Me Hope! Bring Me Hope is a mission to Chinese orphans, and they have camps in several different locations throughout China. Every summer, Bring Me Hope works to bring Chinese orphans and children in need to summer camp for a week. This might be the only opportunity these children ever have to experience life outside of the confines and poverty of the orphanage, to have a normal childhood, to have fun. Every week, a group of children comes and each one is paired with a volunteer and a translator.
The volunteer and translator become that child's "parents" for the whole week, and the three function as a family unit. They play games together, eat together, go shopping together, and do all of the camp activities together. The volunteers tuck the child in at night and comfort them if they are sad. So these children are not only getting a fun week at camp to forget about the stresses of their life, but they are getting a much more essential human need that they may not have ever experienced "love". For one week, these children get to know that there is someone who cares about them. And not only that, but they are getting exposed to the love of God at the same time. But the thing I love most about this ministry is that it doesn't stop when you come back home. After you go on a Bring Me Hope mission trip, your job is to advocate for your child's needs and find him or her a family. When you return home, you have required homework to write a paper about your child and provide pictures to Bring Me Hope's sister site, "Defend", which will help that child potentially find his or her forever family.
I had the amazing experience of going to a BMH camp in 2014, and my life will never be the same. I was matched with three different children during my time there, and because of the advocacy these children get after camp, they ALL have forever families now! I learned so much about God's unconditional love, Holy Spirit leadership, and sacrificial giving on this trip, and I am so thankful for the impact it has made in the lives of countless people who helped bring these babies hope and more importantly, bring them HOME.
Now that my three kiddos have forever families, I am ready to start the advocacy process over again! But I need help to get there...Please consider praying for my trip and/or donating to my mission. Your support will change lives!
