Please help us build our family through adoption!
Overview:
We are a Christian couple that have been married since 2012. Since being married we have had six unexplained miscarriages. After our miscarriages we spent a lot of time talking and praying about what might be the best way to continue to expand our family. We have decided that rather than continuing to try to carry a biological child of our own, we would like to open up our hearts and our home by building our family through domestic infant adoption.
Our Story
During the first two and a half years of our marriage, we experienced five miscarriages. Each loss was devastating, yet helped us grow as a couple. We learned in depth how they each handles loss, and how to help each other during the grieving process and healing. For almost two years now we have been weighing their options about how they would continue to build their family. We have weighed the options between possible fertility treatments, adoption, or just remaining a family of three. With a lot of thought, conversations, and prayer, they have come to the decision to add to their family through domestic infant adoption. One of the obstacles that held us back from adopting earlier is the high cost of adoption. It is not that we cannot afford to raise a second child, rather the upfront cost of adopting a child is huge. We didn't want to go so far into debt for those costs that they couldn't afford to send Zach (Alicia’s son from her first marriage) to college in five years, nor be too far into debt when the baby is adopted and having to add on the regular costs of raising a baby. We have researched and researched adoption and continue to pray for guidance as to what God's plan is for them. We know in our hearts that God would not be filling their heart with so much love and ache for a child if that was not in His plan for them. At our jobs, we see students every day that need love and support, and feel that maybe that is another nudge God may be giving them to remind them that all children deserve love and support, no matter how the child comes into our lives. We have also heard repeatedly that they should not let finances stand in their way, because every adopted child is worth it, and that God will also help in that area as well. Do you know how hard that was for them to swallow? That God could truly help with something as tangible as money? But God DOES work through others, in his time, and often when we least expect it. So, here we are, taking this giant leap of faith. We are doing multiple things to help fund as much as this adoption as we can without help, but we know that help will be needed.
About Steve
Steve graduated from college with a degree in Political Science and Public Administration and is pursuing his Master's Degree at this time. He is currently working at an elementary school where he works with students that exhibit challenging behaviors. He provides corrective teaching strategies and builds relationships with the students so that they are successful in school, as well as in all social situations. Steve is the local Little League President, as well as a coach for our son’s baseball team. You might also find him playing men's fast pitch softball or running the scoreboard for other local school sporting events.
About Alicia
Alicia loves working with children and watching them grow! She has a degree in Child Development and PreK-Elementary Education. She teaches kindergarten in a school that is made up of a diverse population that has a very low socio-economic status. Alicia serves on her building’s Teacher Leadership Team as a mentor teacher and is also an advocate for teachers’ and students’ rights by filling an office with her local Education Association. Alicia grew up in a family with three sisters and a brother, all of which have families of their own now. She has ten nieces and nephews, three great nephews, one great niece another great niece and nephew on the way!
About Zach
Zach is our son from Alicia's first marriage. Zach has a very close relationship with both Alicia and Steve. Zach is in high school, does well in academics, and is very active in sports. He likes to spend time with his friends, play sports, swim, or play video games. Zach also has a great relationship with his father and spends some weekends with his dad, step-mother, and his younger brother and sister. He is looking forward to having a baby brother or sister here at our house, too.
