Bringing Together Social Justice Researchers
Donation protected
Dear all,
We are a group of researchers interested in promoting social equality beyond group divides worldwide. Our goal is to bring together scholars from all over the world at the Annual Convention of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology in San Diego in February 2024. However, many scholars from Africa, Asia, and Latin America lack the financial means to cover the conference-related costs. We believe that more diverse voices, approaches, and ideas are essential to improve the quality of our science and the translation of scientific findings into real-world applications.
We have already applied for several grants (SPSP's International Bridge-Building Award, SPSP's Professional Development Committee Award, and individual awards) to cover the conference-related costs for scholars in need, but, unfortunately, we have not been able to raise a substantial amount of money. We, therefore, reach out to you to ask for your support. Your contribution will help us to subsidize the conference-related costs for the organizers of the SPSP pre-conference on “Advancing LGBTIQ+ research across the globe”* and speakers of the professional development session on “Promoting the success of scholars from marginalized groups”. The funding would include travel, visa, accommodation, and conference costs. The funding would include travel, visa, accommodation, and conference costs. If we raise more money than we need for these individuals, we plan to extend the funding to other attendees from under-represented regions and work on changing the global academic system together. Thank you so much for supporting us!
Best wishes
The organizers of the LGBTIQ+ pre-conference and the diversity session representing scholars from six continents

Diana Cherian (India)
Esra Ummak (Turkey/Norway)
Kailey Lawson (U.S.)
Markus Brauer (U.S.)
Mik Martels (Australia)
Tabea Hässler (Switzerland)
Two scholars from Costa Rica and Ghana
*Please note that the pre-conference was planned as an in-person event, but has been downgraded to a virtual pre-conference. Several organizers still would love to attend the SPSP convention in person to present their work and extend their network.
Funding goals:
1) First target: Invite the co-organizers from underrepresented regions –such as Asia, Africa, and Latin America– to the main conference in person; approx. 6’600 USD
• 3 flights 1’500 USD each = 4’500 USD
• 3 nights accommodation for 3 people (200 USD/night) = 1’800 USD
• 3x conference fee for low-middle income countries = 300 USD
2) Second target: Subsidizing the conference fee for the pre-conference for some scholars; approx. 1’000 USD
• Scholars must pay on average 40 USD per person, 1’000 USD would help us to subsidize the fees for 25 scholars from low-income countries and or early career scholars without funding (e.g., 5 from Eastern/Southern Europe, 5 from Africa, 5 from Asia, 5 from Latin America, 5 from other regions). If we raise more funding, we can support more scholars.
