Help Us Build an Astronomy Information Board for the Community!

Hi everyone! My name is Ojas Girish, and I’m a junior at Mountain House High School (MHHS) and a Life Scout part of MH Troop 511 working on my Eagle Scout Project. I’m raising $1,500 to create a permanent Astronomy Information Board at Bethany Trail in Mountain House, and I need your support to make it happen!

My Journey in Scouting and Astronomy

Since I first joined Scouts, I’ve been motivated by a desire to give back and make a positive impact in my community. Over the years, scouting has taught me so much about leadership, responsibility, and service. I’ve camped under starry skies, explored nature, and learned skills that have prepared me for adventures both big and small. Through over 30 nights of camping and my role as a teacher in various merit badge sessions, I’ve found that one of the things I enjoy most is sparking curiosity in others.

Astronomy has been one of my deepest passions since I was young, but it took on a new meaning for me in 2020 during COVID. That’s when I got my first telescope, and I’ll never forget the excitement of being able to explore the universe up close for the first time. This experience changed my perspective and inspired me to share that feeling of awe and discovery with others in my community. That’s why I’m creating this Astronomy Information Board—to give people of all ages a place to explore the stars, right here in our neighborhood.

Why This Project Matters

There are few places locally where people can learn about constellations, planets, and other wonders in the sky. This Astronomy Information Board will offer anyone who walks by the chance to read about constellations, learn fun facts about the planets, and find guides for stargazing. With a sturdy, weather-protected display, this board will be a long-lasting, educational fixture for the community. I hope it will inspire people of all ages to look up, wonder, and explore.
