Our mum left for work and never came home. Now we are fighting to bring her back, grieving her sudden loss while facing extreme circumstances.

I, Alexandrina Campbell am writing on behalf of my family as the next of kin of our beloved mother, Lorraine Campbell.

Our beautiful mum passed away suddenly while on a work trip in the Gold Coast. On the second day of her trip, she was tragically found deceased by her youngest child, my brother. This devastating experience has left him with deep trauma/PTSD, and our entire family is now grieving an unimaginable loss.

Our mother was only 53 years old and was in good health. At this time, her cause of death remains unknown and is currently under investigation. We have been told it may take 6–12 months before we receive answers.

She was a creative writer particularly writing stories of her ancestors, memories and culture, her favourite was writing poetry. She was an inspiration to many people, she was an Elder in her community, she was wise and knowledgeable. She was our foundation, our guider and our strength. She was a hard worker.

Mum was the heart of our family. She leaves behind five children and nine grandchildren who loved and depended on her deeply. As a proud Ngarrindjeri woman and traditional owner, it is incredibly important to us to bring her home to her traditional homelands in South Australia so we can properly carry out our cultural responsibilities, sorry business, and lay her to rest.

On top of our grief, our family is also in a housing crisis. We have been given a 30 day notice to vacate our home in South Australia. We are now facing the very real risk of homelessness. Mums home was the children and grandchildren’s primary home.

Our mother cared for children with disabilities, who are now in my care. I am doing everything I can to support them, but we are struggling without stable housing or financial support.

We are also trying to move all of Mum’s belongings into storage, but we currently cannot afford the costs of a trailer or storage fees.

I have reached out to multiple politicians and services for help, but so far, we have received no support.
