Today, fifteen days after her 39th birthday and just two weeks shy of the 5 year anniversary of her first bone marrow transplant from her brother, Scott, Elizabeth is fighting again. For the better part of 3 months, due to Covid, Elizabeth has been at COH separated from her son, her boyfriend Frankie and her family. Just three weeks ago, COH finally made an exception to allow her father to stay in her hospital room with her because in her fragile state, she requires 24/7 assistance. Today the hospital has agreed to allow Elizabeth to come home, which requires the family to establish 24/7 home health care. Unfortunately, due to the back ups in the medical insurance systems, and coverage issues all of Elizabeth's costs have to be paid by her family. Elizabeth and her family are absolutely devastated by this news. Truth be told, we are not sure how much longer she has to live. What we do know is that her body can’t handle any more treatment at COH and the last treatment did not get all the cancer. It is time for her to come home.
Elizabeth wants to be home with Hudson and her family and we are determined to help them do that, as this is Elizabeth’s possibly last wish. Given that Home Health Care at the level that she requires is approximately $30k a month without insurance, this wish seems unattainable. Please help Elizabeths family bring her home.
All contributions will be managed by Ansley, Elizabeth's sister, to pay for Elizabeth's day to day needs and her son Hudson's care.

In July of 2015, at just 33 years old and 25 weeks pregnant, Elizabeth went to the Emergency Room for flu-like symptoms but instead received the shocking diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia - blood cancer. At the recommendations of her medical team, she immediately began treatment in Miami, FL where she gave birth to her son, Hudson, on August 24th, approximately 8 weeks early. Fortunately, Hudson was able to come home from his long NICU stay the following month, but Elizabeth remained in the hospital to begin a more aggressive chemotherapy plan. Three months later, the week of her 34th birthday, she was told by her medical team in Florida that her cancer was not curable and there was nothing more they could do for her and to go home and spend the remaining time with her family.
Elizabeth and her family were determined to find another option to keep Elizabeth alive and cure this cancer. After connecting with several friends of family in Los Angeles, CA, she was put in touch with a team of doctors at City of Hope’s (COH) and they agreed to take her case. Elizabeth and Hudson flew to California a few days after this good news. Since that day five years ago, Elizabeth has fought and endured more than you or I can imagine. There have been many, many highs with several remissions from bone marrow donations and acceptance into clinical trials but also some very low lows as her leukemia has reappeared in the form of tumors throughout her body causing her to start the process of fighting all over again. She has spent many days and sometimes months at City of Hope including holidays and most recently her 39th birthday and Hudson’s 5th birthday. These hospital stays, while necessary have robbed her of valuable time with her family, her loved ones and with her growing son, Hudson. While we are so thankful for her care at COH, this is time that Elizabeth will not get back and she is feeling that reality heavily today.
In August of this year, Elizabeth’s status changed drastically when she woke to find her legs and torso had lost feeling. This was especially concerning as she was already suffering from Graft Versus Host, where her body was rejecting the donor bone marrow, which left her unable to extend her arms and move her fingers. The GVH combined with this new symptom has left Elizabeth in a very fragile state, no longer able to stand on her own. Her doctor advised her to come to COH for some tests so they could find out what was going on. Unfortunately, the biopsy results showed leukemia now in her spinal fluid. The last PET scan found additional tumors on her hip, rib and eye socket. Without much choice, Elizabeth immediately began more chemo to treat the cancer in her spinal fluid. Once complete, the doctors would then radiate the tumors after a two week break.

Elizabeth and I have been friends for close to 25 years and I want to help her family spend quality time at home, especially since we are approaching the holidays. We all need our family for the holidays and Elizabeth needs hers more than ever. My heart hurts for all of them and now they are faced with this enormous financial burden. We are also in a time crunch because the doctors are refusing to release Elizabeth from the hospital without the 24/7 home health care in place and every day that goes by is one more day she could spend snuggling Hudson. This fund is designed to ease the financial burden and cover the home health care and any additional medical costs, child care, travel expense, etc needed to keep Elizabeth home so her family can focus on spending meaningful time together. All donations will go directly to caring for Elizabeth.
Your generosity is very much appreciated and we ask that you keep this family in your thoughts and prayers.
