Early this afternoon (April 17, 2026), I was made aware of Lady being an a kill pen in Texas. Thanks to generous donors, I was able to swiftly pay her "bail" and save her from making the trip to Mexico.
For those that do not know, Lady was my horse in college. She is an off-the-track-thoroughbred (OTTB) that made her way into my while she was on vacation from the track. Her breeder gifted her to me when I went off to school because he knew how much I loved her. She and I went on to compete in several hunter/jumper competitions. During my senior year of school, she sustained a career-ending injury in the pasture. I did everything in my power at that time to ensure that she would be pasture or broodmare sound. She went through two surgeries, multiple debridements, and numerous rehabilitation modalities. She then went on to be a successful broodmare for several barrel racing breeders.
While she is safe tonight, there is still a long journey ahead. She will be boarded temporarily in Texas for quarantine. This will also give us time to ensure that she is healthy enough to make the trip to Tennessee to be with us.
If you would like to help with her ongoing care—medical expenses, transportation, or boarding—you’ve come to the right place.
Thank you all so much for your support. It truly takes a village, and the outpouring of love for Lady today has meant more than I can put into words.
