Bringing Kim and Daryl home to Houston

On June 15th, the Boykin family was suddenly and deeply impacted by an unexpected medical diagnosis.  Kim's husband, Daryl Boykin, was diagnosed with multiple cancerous lesions in his brain.  Kim and Daryl are in Georgia, where Kim had just accepted a travel assignment as a endoscopy tech.  Daryl is confined to a hospital there at this time.  Their hope is to get Daryl back home to Houston to continue his treatment and to be with their family.  He will require medical transport that insurance won't cover.

Julie Kirkland and I met Kim Boykin as a coworker and she quickly became our friend.  We met Kim, in 2012 when she confidently  walked into our Memorial Hermann Endoscopy world and turned it in to "Kim's Endoscopy World".  Her infectious smile and laughter created a fun work environment for her colleagues.  Her calm and straight-forward demeanor soothed patient's nerves. Her skill and work ethic melted the hearts of the most "Grinch-like" physicians who came across her path.  The deep compassion and genuine concern Kim shows to her patient's, her friends and their families and to her own family is inspirational.  She is an amazing co-worker and friend.

Now that Kim and Daryl are on the other side of the healthcare experience, we are hoping we can return some of the love and compassion Kim has shown to so many patients and coworkers through the years.

Donations will go to costs associated with medical transportation back to Houston and the ongoing treatment of Daryl's condition.
