Bringing Healing Home: My Vision for Accessible Ketamine Therapy in Sanford, NC
I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a deep commitment to serving individuals facing mental health challenges and substance use disorders. Over the years, I’ve witnessed the transformative power of innovative treatments—and one of the most promising is Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). I’m proud to be fully trained and certified in this cutting-edge approach, which is offering new hope to those who have struggled to find relief through traditional methods.
Now, I’m on a mission:
To bring this life-changing treatment to Sanford, North Carolina—a rural, underserved community with high need and limited access to mental health care.
Why Ketamine Therapy?
Ketamine has shown remarkable results in treating depression, PTSD, anxiety, chronic pain, and substance use disorders. In fact, research from the Harvard Gazette highlights ketamine’s effectiveness in treating resistant depression, often with fewer side effects than traditional methods like ECT. The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) also recognizes ketamine as a promising rapid-acting treatment for severe depression. For a deeper dive into the safety and clinical use of ketamine, Harvard Health offers a helpful overview.
But ketamine’s potential goes beyond depression. It’s also being used to treat:
- Chronic Pain: Ketamine is emerging as a powerful tool for managing neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, and complex regional pain syndrome. Learn more from Healthline’s guide to ketamine for pain management and this National Pain Report article.
- Migraines: For those suffering from treatment-resistant migraines, ketamine—especially in nasal spray form—has shown promising results. Read more in Medical News Today and Practical Neurology.
- Anxiety: Ketamine may offer fast-acting relief for individuals with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and social anxiety, especially when other treatments have failed. Explore the science in Healthline’s article on ketamine for anxiety and Therapy Unlocked.
My Vision
I’m working to establish a dedicated ketamine clinic that will serve the people of Sanford and surrounding areas—especially those who are often left behind by the healthcare system. This includes:
- Veterans & First Responders
- BIPOC & LGBTQ+ individuals
- People with disabilities
- Medicaid recipients
To ensure affordability, I will launch a Financial Assistance Fund to help subsidize treatment costs for these groups.
Ketamine therapy is most effective when paired with psychotherapy—a model known as Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). According to Psychology Today, KAP helps patients process insights and emotions that arise during treatment, leading to longer-lasting relief. A systematic review published by SpringerLink supports this, showing that KAP can significantly reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, especially in treatment-resistant cases. Additional insights into the long-term benefits of combining ketamine with therapy can be found in this SciTechDaily article.
