Bringing Junior Home to Rest

On behalf of the Montoya-Aguilar family, it is with broken hearts that we share the sudden and tragic passing of Martin “Junior” Alfonso Montoya on Thursday, February 19th. He was only 37 years old.

Junior was working his route in Ohio that evening when his work vehicle broke down. He safely pulled over to the side of the road to fix it, just like he’s done before. While outside of his vehicle, he was struck by another truck and passed away upon impact. There were terrible weather conditions that night, and we may never fully understand how something so devastating could happen so fast, but we do know that the Montoya-Aguilar family's lives changed forever in those moments that followed.

Junior leaves behind his two children, Martin Jr. (17 years old) and Mia (13 years old), who were his entire world. He was also a loving and devoted partner to his girlfriend, Stephanie. Junior was a proud son to Martin Sr. and Rosa, a protective and caring brother to YanCarlos (Gio), sister Crystal, and little brother, Alex. In addition to his immediate family, he is leaving behind his grandparents, Rosa and Victor, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He proudly served four years in the United States Army and served a tour in Afghanistan. That sense of responsibility and dedication never left him. He worked hard, showed up for his family, and carried himself with quiet strength.

This loss was completely unexpected and happened far from home. The Montoya-Aguilar family is now facing the financial burden of bringing Junior home to California so he can be laid to rest surrounded by the people who love him most. The costs include transporting him home, memorial expenses, and the many unexpected costs that come with a tragedy like this.

In addition, we hope to ease the immediate financial pressure on his children, partner, and parents. The funds raised will help provide stability during this devastating time—allowing his loved ones the space to grieve without the added stress of rushing back to work or worrying about bills in the immediate aftermath of such a profound loss.

If you are able to donate, no amount is too small. If you cannot donate, please consider sharing this page and keeping the Montoya-Aguilar family in your prayers.

The Montoya-Aguilar family extends their deepest gratitude for your love and support during this difficult time. They kindly ask for your continued prayers and that you honor their son’s memory.
