My name is Jennifer McKinney, and I am a 65-year-old woman currently in poor health.

I never imagined I would be in this position, asking for help, but right now I truly have nowhere else to turn.

My mother-in-law recently passed away after a long and heartbreaking medical ordeal. Before she died, I promised her I would see her legal case through and make sure her voice was heard. I tried to honor that promise, but the legal process has become overwhelming, complicated, and financially draining.

At the same time, my husband has recently been diagnosed with kidney failure and is now on dialysis three times a week. Dialysis is life-sustaining treatment that he cannot miss, and it keeps him tied to the machine for hours at a time. Because of this, he cannot travel to help me or be here with me through this situation. He is unable to help financially because of this sudden disability. If he misses treatment, his life would be in danger.

Right now we are living apart — he is in Maryland and I am in Florida — and all I want is to get back home to Maryland to be with my husband and our pets during this incredibly difficult time.

Unfortunately, there is no estate and no financial resources from my mother-in-law. The only asset she had was a small mobile home, and it is currently tied up in probate. The housing market is so difficult right now that selling it is not even possible at the moment, and there are no funds available to help cover expenses.

I have done everything I can to handle this responsibly and honor my commitment to her, but the financial and emotional burden has become too much to carry alone. I am simply trying to get back home to my husband so we can face his illness and the future together.
