Bringing Hope to the Amazon – Peru Missions Trip 2025

Dear friends and family,

My name is Hawani Asfaw. This July, I have the privilege of joining a team from my church, Word of Life International Church, as we return to Iquitos, Peru to serve alongside local leaders and missionaries. From July 6–14, we’ll be partnering with Israel and Jennifer Arimborgo, who have faithfully dedicated their lives to planting churches, training pastors, and sharing the love and hope of Christ throughout the Amazon region.

In communities like Iquitos and Nauta, daily life often involves challenges that many of us will never face. And yet, what stands out even more than the struggles is the incredible strength, joy, and deep faith of the people. Last year, we were welcomed with open arms. We listened to stories, prayed with families, worked with children, and stood beside local believers as they poured out their hearts for their neighbors. It was humbling to witness how God is working powerfully through them through everyday acts of love and faithfulness.

This year, we’re returning to support that ongoing work by:

• Helping with simple repairs and improvements at a local mission school

• Assisting with outreach events and children’s ministry

• Sharing testimonies and encouraging local churches

• Supporting a newly planted church in Nauta

One of the most meaningful parts of this experience is forming real connections with people whose lives are very different from mine, many of whom face far greater hardships than you and I. And yet, even in those differences, there’s a deep connection. We all feel joy, pain, hope, and longing. We all face questions about purpose and belonging. And at the heart of it, we all need God. That shared humanity, across cultures and language, is humbling and beautiful. It reminds me why this mission matters and why I feel called to return and serve again.

This trip costs about $1,900, and I’m trusting God to provide, through prayer, and through people like you who may feel led to give. Here are two ways you can help:

1. Pray:

Please cover our team in prayer as we prepare to go, as we serve in Peru, and when we return. Some specific areas you can pray for:

• That we would be spiritually, emotionally, and physically prepared

• Provision to help serve in whatever way God leads

• Hearts will be prepared to receive the message of Christ

Every dollar moves this mission forward. Every prayer brings encouragement and strength. And every bit of support reminds me that this isn’t something I do alone, it’s something we do together.
