Bringing Hope to Families Facing Hospital Bills in Nigeria

Donation protected
My name is Ifeoluwa Sanusi. I am currently studying Mental Health and Child Nursing in university due to finish in March 2026. I recently visited Nigeria last year and I saw the level of poverty that was surprising but it made me feel like I should try and do something to help as I know that anything I can do to help will make a big difference. I witnessed firsthand how many families were struggling, not only with hospital bills, but even with basic needs like food, water and shelter. It was heartbreaking to see mothers and children waiting for care, knowing that treatment was being delayed simply because they could not afford the costs. In Nigeria families who require medical treatment are treated but if they can not pay their bill there are required to stay there: during this time they are left in bad conditions sometimes sleeping on the floor with their new borns.

What impacted me the most was realizing that the amount of money needed, while overwhelming for many families in Nigeria, would not be considered very expensive for someone living in England. I began to understand that even a small amount from me or from those willing to help could go a much longer way there. The little we may not think twice about spending here can make a life changing difference for a family in Nigeria. That realisation truly opened my eyes and strengthened my desire to help in any way I can.

I have felt a deep calling to use the skills and compassion I have learned in nursing in a place where the need is great. The knowledge and experience I gained has shaped me not only as a student, but as a person, and I want to challenge myself to grow even further by serving in a different environment. I will be traveling to Nigeria to volunteer in pediatric and maternity wards, where many children and mothers face serious medical challenges without the financial resources to access the care they urgently need.
During my time there, I hope to do more than just assist medically. I want to offer comfort, dignity, and hope to families going through some of the hardest moments of their lives. It is heartbreaking to know that some patients are unable to receive treatment or even leave the hospital simply because they cannot afford their bills. No mother should have to worry about how she will pay for a safe delivery, and no child should be denied care because of financial hardship.

For this reason, I am starting a Go Fund Me to help raise money that will go directly toward paying hospital bills for patients in need. My goal is to help as many families as possible receive the care they deserve without the added burden of overwhelming medical costs. I will be sharing this with my friends and family, and any contribution no matter how small will make a meaningful difference. Your support will not only help provide medical care, but also restore hope to families during a time when they need it most.
I am truly asking for your support in this mission. Even a small donation could help cover medication for a sick child, assist with delivery costs for a new mother, or allow a family to finally return home without the fear of unpaid bills. If you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser with others would mean just as much. Together, we can ease financial burdens, save lives, and show these families that they are not alone. Your kindness and generosity can directly change someone’s story. Thank you for being part of this journey with me and for helping me turn compassion into action.

Photos will be updated once I arrive and begin volunteering to ensure full transparency.
