There is no way to prepare someone for the devastation of losing a child. Our world was shattered and flipped upside down this past year with losing our first baby at 10 weeks in February of 2021. At the time it was the most heart wrenching thing we ever had to walk through… until December of 2021.
On December 1, 2021 I was 20 weeks pregnant with our rainbow baby, Emersyn. And on December 2, 2021 our world was shattered again. After feeling no movement for 24 hours, we went in to get checked out, where we heard those dreadful words.. “I’m so sorry there’s no heartbeat”
Emersyn Rose Drew was born sleeping on December 3, 2021 at 5pm, weighing 1.1 lbs and 11 inches long.
With a multitude of testing done after delivery, we were diagnosed a few weeks later with Neonatal Alloimmune Thrombocytopenia (NAIT), a rare blood-related disease.
We initially decided to move forward with IVF as an option for our family to make every possible effort to not have another pregnancy affected by NAIT. After going through all of our testing and even as far as ordering medications, we were roughly $10,000 into IVF when we got the surprise and miracle of a lifetime – we found out we were pregnant!

With a quick change of plans, and an incredible medical team on our side, we are heading down the road of a very high risk pregnancy & intense treatments to do everything in our power to help this baby survive the odds. This pregnancy will require very costly weekly infusions of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVig) at a hospital 1.5 hours from our home. Once a week I will commute to complete a full day of infusions.
It has been a long process and while we are still grieving the loss of our babies every single day and raising a toddler all the while, we have been thrown into this world of infusions, treatments, medications, testing, and more.
Your help and support through this process will help us cover the necessary (and costly) weekly infusion treatment to bring home our beautiful rainbow baby.
