Bringing Free Medical Care to San Lucas Toliman, Guatemala

Welcome to our GoFundMe page! We are a group of medical, pharmacy, and nursing students from the University of Wisconsin- Madison and the UW School of Medicine and Public Health (UWSMPH). We're excited to share our mission with you and invite you to be a part of something truly impactful. Our team is gearing up for a medical mission with the Friends of San Lucas organization in San Lucas Toliman, Guatemala. Our goal is simple yet profound: to provide completely free medical care to those in need while on our medical brigade mission this summer.

Why San Lucas? Located in Guatemala, San Lucas Toliman is a community where access to healthcare can be limited, and the cost of medication often presents a significant barrier to receiving proper treatment. That's where we come in. By partnering with Friends of San Lucas, we have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of individuals and families by offering essential medical services and alleviating the financial burden associated with healthcare.

What will your donation support? Your generous contributions will directly fund the purchase of medication, supplies, and equipment necessary to provide comprehensive medical care to our patients. From antibiotics to chronic disease management medications, every dollar you donate will help us ensure that no one in San Lucas goes without the treatment they need.

What does our mission entail? Our team of students will be paired up with physicians from the department of Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatric Medicine and more. We will be working as an interdisciplinary team collaborating with nurses, physical therapists, pharmacists and more as we work hand-in-hand with local healthcare professionals and volunteers, immersing ourselves in the rich culture of San Lucas Toliman. We'll start our days at the Mission clinic, where we'll gather supplies and coordinate our efforts for the day ahead. Then, we'll head out to the mission site clinic to set-up and provide vital medical services to those who may otherwise go without.
