My name is Breeanna Maree and I am the writer/director of the film Candles. This film follows Amir on his 21st birthday as he wrestles with the recent unjust death of his older brother Omar. Face to face with the weight of his mortality, he uses his pen to protect the sanctity and legacy of Black lives.
Though this story addresses the trauma police brutality weaves into the lives of Black men, it also gives hope by showing how those very Black men overcome their trauma and build a legacy. As a passionate storyteller, I would love to bring my first project to screen.
We are so grateful to our growing community of donors for helping us reach 26%! Please continue to share our campaign.
We’re also hosting a fundraiser open mic September 4 in Baltimore, MD. Check out our Instagram @candlesfilm2026 for more information and the eventbrite link!
