I'm raising funds to bring Canaan Land to the stage, a powerful original two-act stage play that tells the story of faith, family, justice, and the Black church in 1943 Los Angeles. Canaan Land is more than a play. It is a story about Black families who came west during the Great Migration searching for opportunity, dignity, and a promised land, only to discover that injustice often followed them there. Through the lives of Pastor Isaiah Caldwell, Mother Clara Dinkins, Benny Dillard, Moses Gordon, and others, the play explores questions that still matter today:
What is the role of the church in the fight for justice?
How do faith and economic empowerment work together? What does courage look like when your community is under pressure?
This project was born out of my passion for preserving Black church history, telling honest stories about our people, and creating work that challenges, heals, and inspires. Too often, our stories are either forgotten or flattened. I wanted to create something that honors the complexity, strength, and spiritual witness of our community.
The funds raised for Canaan Land will go directly toward producing a professional, high-quality stage production that honors the story and the audience it deserves. Your support will help cover theater rental and venue costs, pay talented actors, musicians, and production staff, and ensure thoughtful set design and stage construction. Funds will also provide for authentic costumes and props, lighting and sound design, music production, marketing, community outreach, rehearsal space, and administrative costs. This is about creating an experience that tells our story with excellence, integrity, and impact.
I believe this story deserves to be seen, and with your help, we can bring Canaan Land to life. Please consider supporting this project and sharing it with others who care about preserving and celebrating our history.
