Medical Care For BB


Hello Family and Friends,

We are reaching out because our dear BB is currently at the vet hospital. BB's story has had its twists and turns since we adopted her a couple years ago. Once in Santa Cruz in May 2017, we spent months bringing BB back to health from multiple ear infections, eye infections, skin infections, vaccinations, spaying and finally dental work. 

Last Tuesday, we brought BB to the vet when she ingested some ibuprofen. What we thought would be a simple vet visit turned into a nightmare. We had bloodwork done which uncovered a more serious condition. BB has been suffering from Ehrlichia, a tick borne virus (somewhat similar to lymes) for years.  The combination of the Erlichia and the toxicity of the ibuprofen had caused serious damage to her kidneys. She continued to stay in the ER until Thursday afternoon.

Once we picked her up on Thursday, we could tell that something was off. She wasn't eating (a rarity for our girl!) and was drinking a lot of water. She was lethargic and not herself. It was advised that we give her 48 hours to bounce back from being in the hospital. On Saturday, we decided we needed to bring her back to the vet because she wasn't showing improvement. After spending hours at the ER, the doctor let us know that BB needed to stay for a minimum of two more days. They are keeping our girl on fluids, hoping that her body will recover. She is taking medication to remove the erhlichia but her kidneys are continuing to function improperly. 

She has already spent over 96 hours in intensive care and we are hoping she can make her way out of this to become a healthy pup again. 

Since being in our lives, BB has made such a turn around in her attitude, behavior, and confidence. This obvious improvement and her story of coming from over seas in poor health to being a healthy happy pup  has touched many of our friends, family, colleagues, and clients. Despite all that she's been through in life, you will never see a dogs tail wag more than hers. 

We're reaching out to friends and family for support with BB's current and projected vet bills so that we can ensure she lives the rest of her days living the dream in Santa Cruz.
