On July 1, 2026, Ayla traveled to Nairobi, Kenya, with the goal of supporting Zion Family, a children's home for boys and girls who were orphaned and are now adopted into a loving family. Unfortunately, she contracted salmonella and has been hospitalized since Sunday, July 11, 2026. Ayla has sickle cell disease, and the salmonella contamination has infected her kidney, liver, and blood. She has had blood transfusions (at least 4 units thus far) due to low hemoglobin levels and has had to start dialysis treatments and battle jaundice. She's currently not approved to fly back to the US via commercial airlines and will need to be transported via a medical emergency flight. Filing an insurance claim and getting timely support has been challenging due to HIPAA laws, being international, and different time zones.

Our goal is to pay the following:

1. The Kenyan hospital (Aga Khan University Hospital) that has graciously worked hard to treat and care for Ayla

2. AMREF Flying Doctors, who are working to get Ayla back to the US safely

3. Travel costs for 2 individuals who have changed travel itineraries multiple times in an effort to support Ayla's care while hospitalized in Nairobi.
