Bring Fawn Home
Last year I found out I was pregnant with twins after finishing a recent seperation and working out plans with my son Jack.
As a type 1 diabetic, I was told by the doctors that the pregnancy would be very tough, that there would be complications and the twins may not survive. An abortion was not an option because I could not live with the idea of killing my two unborn children.
In the last 3 months of the pregnancy I was hospitalized on bed rest. On April 19th ( which happens to be my birthday ) the plecenta ripped from the uterus and the twins were born at only 24 weeks of age.
Hunter was born first at 1lb 4oz and Fawn at 1lb 5oz. Because of the unplanned delivery Hunter was unfortunately without oxygen for 6 minutes while we were racing to the operating room for an emergency c-section.
They spent the next 3 months in the neonatal intensive care unit at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). However after 3 months, the prematurity was too much and Hunter unfortunately passed away.
Fawn is still growing strong but because of her paralyzed vocal chords and lack of strength in her lungs, she was forced to have surgery done and a trachea tube was put in.
In order for her to come home, she needs around the clock 24 hour care from two people who are medically trained to care for a trach tube and machines to help her breath and eat. The machines are only 75% covered and one nurse at 40 hours a week are covered during the week so that I can sleep and another for during the weekend so that I can sleep during the weekend.
Machines upfront cost : 1500$
Machines monthy cost : 500$
1st nurse : covered by the goverment of Ontario
2nd nurse : 13.50$ an hour
Total cost : 19500$ + 84240$ ( nurse )
(1500$ + 500$ * 36 months + 40 hours * 13.50$ * 52 weeks * 3 years )
I am a single mother of one beautiful 2 year old son and my surviving daughter of four months old Fawn holding onto hope that we can bring her home.
On a wish list at the moment I would like the mamaroo

It helps her pass gass. She lost half a pound this week with complications due to eating because of her gases.
