Liberty and justice for Eyvin wrongfully detained

Donation protected
Our loved one Eyvin Hernandez, is finally back on US soil!!! He survived 660 days in a cell in the most notorious, maximum security prison in Caracas, Venezuela. Through the work of SO MANY, including his brother and parents, his friends, fellow alum from UCLA school of law, the public defense community, advocates, elected officials, his representatives, and the good folks at SPEHA and the White House, our dear Eyvin is free. Alongside nine other Americans, twenty Venezuelans, Eyvin was released Wednesday December 20th. We are so grateful to everyone who donated money so his family could travel back-and-forth to DC, posted on social media, signed the petition, reached out to representatives, prayed and/or sent a good thought.

Eyvin is so incredibly beloved, and it is his integrity, brilliance, compassion, and commitment to the people and generosity of spirit that inspired so many of us to rally behind him. Even amidst the trauma and isolation he has endured from inside a Venezuelan prison, Eyvin advocated for the people around him, others who were incarcerated, and that too is proof of his character. His release is a testament to the collective power of the people.

As he transitions back into being a free man after almost two years of captivity, in a place thousands of miles away from his home and family, he will need time to adjust. The US government will provide him with ten days of re-integration services. But after that, Eyvin is on his own to put the pieces of his life back together. Prior to this ordeal, Eyvin worked hard as a dedicated career public defender, supporting and representing the people in our community who most needed his help. Before this nightmarish ordeal, he had become a first time homeowner in Los Angeles. He has a mortgage and bills to pay, along with recovery and healing to do after such a traumatic experience. Anything you can donate towards supporting him on this journey will be greatly appreciated.

We appreciate each one of you for your assistance in bringing Eyvin home. He has expressed over and over again how grateful he is for your support!

With love and commitment,
