Deshae Bryam is an extraordinary 11 year old with a heart of gold and a personality to be reckoned with. On the evening of April 28, 2015, those who know and love Deshae, as well as Deshae herself, could have never imagined the turn of events that were to unfold. Deshae was involved in an accident that resulted in a brain injury that has left her with severe brain damage.
As a result of the brain damage, Deshae has lost all mobility, as well as her ability to verbally communicate. Although this accident has changed the way Deshae interacts with those around her, what it has not done, is weaken her fight and zest for life. During the months spent in the Hospital for Sick Kids, Deshae and her parents were given many prognoses and diagnoses none of which were positive. Deshae however, defied all doctors expectations for her recovery. The first of which came when she was able to breathe on her own without the assistance of the ventilator.
It has been a long road since that night in April that would change Deshae and her loved ones lives forever.
She has been out of the hospital setting for a couple of weeks now and is in the process of adjusting to life in her new long term care home for kids. With this move, comes the expenses associated with adjusting to her new way of life. Expenses such as, her own hospital bed, rehabilitation treatments at Holland Bloorview Rehab Hospital, a wheelchair catered to her specific needs, vehicle modifications for travel, hypoberic chamber treatments, etc.
