Bring Zucker home ❤️

Donation protected
Hi everyone

In August, after a tough few years for Ollie and I, we decided to rescue two 6 month old kittens. We named the curious one Zucker (which is fitting, he loves food & Zucker means sugar ) and the quieter one Peach. After living in a household where they were neglected, we were excited to give them a proper life. Since having them, they have brought us so much comfort and made our new house feel like a home. The four of us have bonded a lot over the last 5 months and it’s hard to picture life without them now.

Last week, Zucker started to seem a little bit unwell. He was meowing a lot and seemed skinnier than usual, he was also off his food. We rang the vets and got him in immediately. They found diagnosing him quite tricky because his bloods were bad for different reasons and a clear diagnosis wasn’t obvious. The vet suggested that he might have FIP, a mutation of cat coronavirus. Both cats may have had coronavirus, but Zucker’s mutated and means that his body isn’t fighting anything off and he is becoming weaker by the day. Until 2021, FIP in cats was fatal. However, now a drug exists (which is incredibly hard to get hold of). Myself and Ollie’s friend spent Saturday morning frantically ringing any 24 hour vets we could find and miraculously managed to get hold of this injection. Zucker had his first dose at 2pm on Saturday.

Ollie and I had a chat and decided that as we were approaching the limit of our pet insurance, we would have to consider putting Zucker to sleep if he hadn’t improved by this morning (Sunday). The vet rang, and he has improved and is walking around. She said he still will need to be in hospital for a few days before being well enough to come home. This is where we are now asking for the help of family and friends. We are desperate for Zucker to get the care he needs in hospital but the cost of being in hospital and having blood tests has eaten its way through our insurance and also through our own savings. We have no other option but to ask for support if we want Zucker to be home safely. We have come so far and want to give him the best shot at life, so that he can live the next 9-10 years of his life like any cat should!

After a turbulent few years, Zucker and Peach really have brought so much love and healing to our world. We would be forever grateful for your support in bringing him home. I have been in touch with people who’ve cats have had FIP on Facebook and this treatment tends to be quite successful- we have already seen improvements less than 24 hours after the first dose. We really do believe this could cure Zucker and give him the life he deserves.

Thank you so much in advance to anyone who supports, we are so so grateful for you.

-If we somehow raise over the amount we end up needing for Zucker, or he improves quicker and we no longer need so much, we will donate the excess to RSPCA, where we adopted him from-
