The roots of this project go back to 2006 when I joined the Army and became a medic. During my training and deployments to Iraq, I found myself constantly writing down my experiences, and that habit turned into a passion that led me to finish my degree in creative non-fiction writing at the University of San Francisco.

The result of all this is a memoir called "Bring Your Gun To Work Day." I'm so proud of this book and its pages filled with the quirky, honest humor that got me through even the darkest days of my enlistment. Now I want to share it with the world.

What this gofundme will provide:
The ability to hire an editor for a readers report and a full line edit of the 94k word manuscript
The ability to hire a literary agent to help navigate the journey of getting the book professionally published

Why not just self-publish?

It's true, I could e-publish this book today on iTunes and Amazon for a nominal fee, and it would be available to millions of people at the click of a button. But this is not the route I want to take. I've put so much time and effort into making this project the best creative work I've ever produced, and now I need help.

Every book you see on the shelf is the result of a collaborative partnership of the talent of the author and all the other individuals who work to bring it into existence: the editors, typesetters, graphic designers, and more. The beta-readers who have graciously given their time to help me improve my drafts have been amazing, but there is no substitute for hiring a professional, unbiased editor to make this book worthy of your hard earned money and the hours you spend enjoying it.

Why This Book Matters

We live in a world where new information bombards us from all directions, and it's easy to forget the lessons of the past. While my part in this important chapter of American history was small, what I learned during those few years was invaluable. This book serves not only to humanize the realities of the war I fought in but also acts as a reminder of the cost of not learning from our mistakes.

I want to share my experience and have it available as a cautionary tale for the young men and women who are considering putting on the uniform and putting their lives in danger to serve their country. I want it to be a deterrent for those who would be eager to send these troops into conflict by showing them that real human beings sacrifice for these decisions.

Your support in helping me make this goal a reality means the world to me! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
