On October 20, my stepdad, Walter, was detained by ICE while on his way to work around 5 a.m. According to Walter, ICE agents pulled him over and detained him without giving him an explanation or reason. Walter did not resist and complied with the agents’ orders. He has an ongoing immigration case and is in the process of getting his Visa, and the ICE agents stated that they were aware of that. After detaining him, they left his truck on the side of the road, unlocked, with the windows down and the keys still in the ignition, leaving his belongings and work equipment inside.

Walter is not a criminal. He is a hard-working man who has lived in and contributed to this country for 26 years. He came to the United States as a minor in search of better work opportunities and a safer life than the one he could have had in his hometown in Guerrero, Mexico. He dedicates his life to working and providing for his family, both in the U.S. and in Mexico.

Walter is an essential part of our family and my mom’s household. We are absolutely devastated to see someone we love being treated with a complete lack of respect and humanity. Our family has been working, and will keep working, to ensure that he is able to come home and remain in the U.S. to continue his immigration case.

Although we are all contributing as much financial and emotional support as we can, any additional help is immensely appreciated. We are asking for help to cover the legal expenses needed to fight his case, as well as the cost of his bond if he is granted one. Donations will also help cover food and other necessities Walter may need while in ICE custody.

El 20 de octubre, mi padrastro, Walter, fue detenido por ICE mientras iba en camino al trabajo alrededor de las 5 de la mañana. Dedica su vida a trabajar y a mantener a su familia, tanto en Estados Unidos como en México.

Walter es una parte fundamental de nuestra familia y del hogar de mi mamá. Estamos completamente devastados al ver cómo alguien a quien queremos está siendo tratado con una total falta de respeto y humanidad. Nuestra familia ha estado trabajando, y seguirá trabajando, para asegurarse de que pueda regresar a casa y permanecer en Estados Unidos para continuar con su proceso migratorio.

Aunque todos estamos aportando todo el apoyo económico y emocional que podemos, agradecemos mucho cualquier ayuda adicional.
