Hi! Our names are Carol Bennett, Larry MacLean, and Shelley Bennett Trifos, and we are fundraising to bring Walter and Cathy Rutherford home.
Walter Rutherford, a retired Cape Breton Regional Police Superintendent, devoted husband and father, and longtime community volunteer, has been in intensive care in Ottawa for five weeks, facing a serious medical crisis and numerous complications.
Throughout this difficult journey, his devoted wife, Cathy, has remained by his side, far from home and the community they love. Their hope is to bring Walter safely back to Sydney, where they can be surrounded by family, friends, and the Cape Breton community.
The cost of a specialized medical flight and the medical team needed to bring Walter home is estimated at $50,000. We are asking our community to help make this journey possible.
Walter and Cathy have given so much to Cape Breton. Through Walter’s years of service in policing and their family’s dedication to local sports, young athletes, and community organizations, they have touched many lives. After the heartbreaking loss of both of their sons, Mark and Trevor, over the past four years, they have endured more sorrow than any family should have to bear.
Now, it’s our turn to be there for them.
Every donation, no matter the amount, will bring us closer to our $50,000 goal. If you cannot donate, please consider sharing this appeal and keeping Walter and Cathy in your thoughts and prayers.
Cape Breton has always been a community that comes together when one of its own needs help. Let’s show Walter and Cathy that their years of service, kindness, and generosity have not been forgotten.
Please help us bring Walter home to Cape Breton. Every donation, every share, and every prayer matters.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Family, Friends and Supporters of Walter and Cathy Rutherford.
