Bring Tolstoy's The Death of Ivan Ilyich to film
Donation protected
We are Noah Cohen and Alex Squires, two experienced filmmakers based in Edinburgh, Scotland. We want to make the 21st century's first faithful, fully realized adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's timeless novella, The Death of Ivan Ilyich. While we have the skills, the network, and the equipment to make it happen, we do not have formal financial backing -- largely out of a desire to keep our clear vision intact.
We are asking for contributions that would go towards realizing the 19th century pastiche of this film; the locations, props, sets, and costumes that elevate a period piece from incredulous to believable. Funds would help, too, towards paying for entries into film festivals worldwide. Help us make our dream short film become real, and your generous contributions will earn you producer credits and a special thanks!
The progress so far:
- With multiple talented Edinburgh actors interested in each role, we are lucky enough to have already cast Nash Noorgard Morton as Ivan Ilyich, with the other roles close to being definitively cast if not cast already.
- We have secured full access to and cooperation of the University of Edinburgh Law School, allowing us to film their famous old college building and grounds for a few pivotal scenes that take place at a legal institution.
- With a prospective shooting window during the second week of January, we already have a large, motivated, and talented crew who want to see this film made right just as much as we do.
