Bring "The Healing Shipment" To Life!

Donation protected

Greetings, my name is Maria Camia and I need your help!

I am a Filipino-American Visual Theater Artist, Fashion Designer, and Introspective Hypnosis Practitioner from Virginia Beach, VA. Since I moved to New York in 2013, I have been creating the world of Aricama, the land of practice, play, and healing. I intend more breath, more awareness, more fun, and more abundance for all who engage with my art. My new puppet musical, The Healing Shipment, will premiere at La Mama Experimental Theatre Club this November 3-5. This particular show is my most epic piece of theater yet! With fifteen songs co-composed by myself and Aaron Banes, choreography by UJ Mangune, story edited by Julliette Holliday as well as amazing animation, and projections, this production will be more than fantastical. On stage our story will be brought to life by a star-studded cast of seven incomparable BIPOC performers.

We are so grateful to have received funds from The Jim Henson Production Grant and NYC Women’s Fund in Media, Music, & Theater, but we still need your help to make this production a success! Donating to our GoFundMe will go to compensating our puppet builders, crew, and production team as well as support us in purchasing materials and more. Please consider supporting The Healing Shipment today!

About The Show:
Written by Maria Camia, The Healing Shipment is a spiritual/sci-fi gestalt puppet musical about an Extraterrestrial named Maricama from Aricama, the land of practice, play and healing. When Maricama gets stuck on earth after her potato spaceship crashes into a bickering family’s backyard, she calls upon her future granddaughter, Marikata, to save her from this sunless planet. As Marikata embarks on this time-traveling mission, Maricama guides the phone-addicted humans back to their inner light, all while learning how to face her NOW. Musical composition by Aaron Banes.

Today we are so far removed from forming authentic connections with the self, others, and the slowly depleting natural world that surrounds us. Instead screens and superficiality distract us from play and joy. This story works to immortalize the sacred powers of healing passed down by our ancestors whether they be great grandmothers or ancient trees. At its core, The Healing Shipment reminds us that the greatness we so desperately seek already exists within ourselves.

This story is influenced by pre-colonial Filipino culture, Mayan Mythology, and Hinduism. The land of Aricama is animated by inspirations from the advanced civilizations of Hollow Earth and Arcturus. Aricama’s aesthetic vibrates on a rainbow color palette with catchy song tunes to assist in self love practices even after watching a performance. Every creation is in the interest of the audience to shine their light from within and remember who they truly are.
