Bring Sound To Ashlyn Bring New Joy

Donation protected
Ashlyn was born as most beautiful babies arrive, healthy and the greatest gift life could ever bless us with. With each passing month her eyes lit up the room and her smile made the world pause to soak in the pure joy of her presence. Only one thing seemed to be missing - her responsiveness to sound. It wasn’t until Ashlyn was approximately 28 months old that concerns started surfacing that she may not hear as she should...
A number of events had occurred, starting from birth when the hospital did not test her hearing prior to discharge; the oversight was caught a month later and she was tested. Unfortunately that week the hospital underwent construction and all babies failed the screening due to volume of noise. Subsequent Doctors appointments concluded that Ashlyn will start talking by the age of two. After her second birthday and much persistence Ashlyn was diagnosed with Bilateral Sensorineural Profound Hearing Loss which means only low tones and at an extremely high volume can be heard.

After minimal success with hearing aid devices and countless appointments and rigorous testing Ashlyn has been deemed a prime candidate for Cochlear Implants and stands a really good chance to benefit from this technology in so many ways.

Ashlyn’s Mom is a selfless 20 year old hardworking PSW that provides exceptional care to so many people whom also rely on her on a daily basis. Kyley takes great pride and compassion in her duties and sets forth every day to make a meaningful difference not only in Ashlyn’s life but also the lives of so many others.

Sadly there is no Government funding or social assistance that supports a leave of absence from work to care for Ashlyn in her greatest time of need. Work has been very accommodating with time off for the countless appointments to date however Ashlyn’s surgery will entail being restricted from daycare for a period of ten days pre-surgery to avoid infection followed by a six week period of recovery post surgery along with follow ups and rehabilitation.

Kyley’s work will grant an unpaid leave of absence and Disability Benefits (ACSD) offers $100 per month to cover transportation, parking fees, hotel accommodations etc since Kyley and Ashlyn live 6 hour round trip from the hospital; this is far from adequate.

Kyley is not looking for a free ride in life. She enjoys working and intends to continue working however is without options to cover these costs along with day to day living expenses for the two month period of Ashlyn’s upcoming surgery.

I, as her mother would give anything to help more but I am widowed on one income raising three kids on my own.

I am reaching out for public assistance at a time when our Province does not offer any short term programs that she is eligible for.

I am asking for any assistance our friends, families, neighbours and complete strangers can comfortably provide. I’ll start with the first $500. Please join me in reaching a $10,000 goal so Mom and Daughter can together discover the joy of Ashlyn’s 3rd Birthday Song, the meow of her cat, the words I Love You, her first school recital and fast forward years later... every word of her wedding vows and just maybe one day, the sound of her own baby’s cry.

Thank you so much for your time and the lengthy read. HEAR We Go!!! let’s do this.....
