Bring Silvia and Rogelio Home

A very close friend, Lizette Carmona, has parents who are dealing with an awful, heartbreaking situation. On Nov. 22, 2016, they were hit by a semi when traveling by vehicle in Mexico (Mateguala, San Luis Potosí). Lizette’s mom, Silvia Solis, suffered extremely severe, life-threatening injuries and was taken to a government-run hospital following the accident. Because of Mexico’s flawed healthcare system, one must pay upfront before being treated with care, so this has left Silvia and her family in a very unfortunate situation. She was discharged from the hospital even though she was in a very unstable condition. She has been left without proper medical care. Her current state is life threatening as they have refused to treat or cast her broken ankles and severe/deep lacerations in her legs with infection that is spreading. Silvia could very well have more injuries and complications, but because of the improper care, she hasn’t been able to receive x-rays or additional blood work. Her family has also been lied to by physicians over the phone, who downplayed the severity of her injuries. Lizette discovered the true severity of her condition once arriving in Mexico on Dec. 26.

Because the accident happened in Mexico, Silvia has no medical rights and her insurance will not pay in her current situation. Silvia and her husband are currently in La Palma, Michoacán staying with family and have no medical care. Michoacán is a very unsafe place, especially for an injured woman.

 We are asking for everyone’s support in order to pay for an air ambulance to bring her back to the U.S. –
Laredo, Texas – where she will be treated and then eventually make her way back to Fort Wayne. The cost of this transportation is $25,000. Any other standard methods of transportation are prevented due to their rural location and gas rationing by the government. The length of time to travel by car to Laredo, Texas is also unsafe because of the time it would take with her deteriorating condition.  Anything you can contribute is greatly appreciated and will help significantly.
