Bring Theatre Magic to Bridgeport Schools
Donation protected
Help us foster a creative relationship between Staples Players and elementary school students in Bridgeport, CT through the joy of Shakespeare and theatre!
Mr. Roth's Staples Theatre III class had a special treat today -- a visit from a 3rd grade class from Bridgeport's Edison Public School! These students have been getting Shakespeare enrichment once a month from Westport's resident Bard expert, Diane Lowman, and have been thriving learning about all things Shakespeare.
The Staples students performed two scenes from Macbeth, had great conversations with their young counterparts, played a theatre game or two, and ended the morning with pizza and juice boxes! Plus, our third-grade friends told us all they had been learning about with Miss Diane.
This wonderful morning of connection and creativity got us thinking -- wouldn't it be great to continue to build these bridges and even expand the program to another classroom in Bridgeport?
We plan on making these trips more frequent -- IF we can fund it! Currently, there is no funding for trips like this in the Bridgeport schools, and it ends up falling on the (wonderful) teachers to fund it themselves. If you can help at all (even just a few dollars), it would make a world of difference! Hiring a bus to transport students between schools is surprisingly costly, plus we need to feed the kids, too!
Later this year, we are hoping to bring the Staples theatre class to Edison to visit their new friends and talk more theatre! And wouldn't it be wonderful (for both sets of students) to get to visit additional classes and learn together through creativity? You can help make it happen!
