Our dear friend Ummi was visiting her family in Nigeria along with her two children, Salma, 5 and Muhammed, 10 months. On their way to the airport to return to Canada, they were in a car accident that claimed the lives of Ummi and her husband, Abdul Hammed. This unimaginable tragedy has affected our community deeply, and our hearts are broken. The children are currently safe and with Ummi’s family in Nigeria, but for their mental health and ability to heal, they need to be back in their home and their community and surrounded by their support system. We are working with the Canadian Embassy, but we are in need of funds to pursue our efforts of bringing Salma and Muhammed home. Any financial assistance provided will be put towards travel expenses, legal fees, and anything else the children will need upon their return.
