Meet Pelacha — a 6-year-old Peruvian Hairless mix who has survived against all odds.

Pelacha spent her life deep in the Amazon rainforest of Peru, enduring harsh conditions where food was scarce, shelter was makeshift, companionship was fleeting, and medical care simply didn’t exist. For six long years, she bore the weight of near-constant hunger, exposure to the elements, and isolation. Yet, somehow, through all that pain, the warmth in her soul never faded.

Despite everything, Pelacha remains gentle, kind, and overflowing with love. Her eyes shimmer with joy. Her wiggling body — scarred from hardship — reflects a forgiving, unbreakable spirit. Her quirky smile, with her tongue hanging out one side (likely from an old injury), makes her impossible to ignore. Her presence is magical, otherworldly — reminiscent of Dante, the spirit guide from Disney’s Coco: loyal, wild, soulful, and unforgettable.

We met Pelacha in the forest. One gentle stroke of her thin, damaged skin was all we could offer in that moment — and somehow, it was enough. She followed us for eight miles through the jungle back to our camp and never left our side again.

Not long after, Pelacha gave birth to four puppies. Emaciated and weak, her body still prioritized her 10-day-old pups. When we found her again, she was lying in the dust, barely able to stand — yet still feeding her babies with the last of what she had left to give.

Seeing her condition, her former guardian — unable to provide the life she deserved — made the brave and selfless decision to entrust Pelacha into my care. It was clear from the start that our bond was something rare: deep, gentle, immediate, and unspoken. I knew she was special. And now, it’s my dream to give her the life she’s never known — filled with comfort, safety, and love.

But getting her there is no small task.

So far, Pelacha has received:

• Life-saving veterinary care (she was severely malnourished, unvaccinated, had an infected eye, and a kidney infection)

• High-quality nutrition and recovery support for herself and her 4 sweet puppies

• Full international documentation, including a microchip, vaccines, titer testing, and export certification

Still needed

• Safe transport for Pelacha and 3 pups to include a short CDC hold upon entry to the U.S., where rehoming to loving forever families is within reach

• removal of spay and neuter stitches for Pelacha and all puppies

• microchip and titer testing for 3 of the darling puppies

This fundraiser will directly support Pelacha and her pups — covering their medical care, rehabilitation, travel costs, and the effort to find safe, loving homes.

Our goal is to bring Pelacha and her puppies across continents into the arms of a family that will never let her go hungry, unprotected, or unloved again.
