Bring OURS to Life: A Story of Soveriegnty and Survival

Hi! My name is Vanessa Bazile, writer and director of OURS, my graduate film thesis for Emerson College. This narrative short follows Delilah and Jerome as they navigate a new chapter in their adult relationship; all captured by an old video camera they used to use when they were young.

Background:

Liberation, redemption, love, and loss. OURS is a story that is familiar to many. The story of a young woman trapped in a vicious cycle of traditional degradation. The characters in this film are of Caribbean descent. The things that they saw growing up in their own households have unknowingly trickled into their own relationships and have proven time and time again not to be effective. But how do you fight off cultural norms when it is all you know? Through the use of their personal home videos and cinematic storytelling, the dynamic of this relationship will be on full display. However, this isn’t just Delilah and Jerome’s story. It’s yours, it’s mine, it’s ours.

The Goal:

We are looking to raise 3K to make OURS happen! We will be shooting in Boston, MA on the weekends of July 4th-6th and 11th-13th! Your donations will be used towards our production costs which include: props, set decorations, costumes, craft services, transportation, hard drives, locations, festival submissions, and promotional materials. As well as crew fees which include: a composer, a color corrector, a sound mixer, and an editor.
