Thank you everyone, the outpouring of support has been tremendous. We are turning off donations but can not thank you enough. I hope that you will continue to share Oscars story and the many similar stories that are happening. Sending you all positive vibes for peace and safety.
I'm going to write a complex story as short as I can to get this information shared quickly. An exceptional student of the SSP Packer family, (and man is he proud to be a Packer) has been detained by I.C.E. for the past 12 days. He has all of his legal documents in order, yet he was pulled from his car, which was abandoned with his keys, wallet, and cell phone in it. Within 24 hours, he was sent to El Paso, Texas, and has not been given the opportunity to call or message anyone even though resources were set up for it. After his lawyer won his habeas corpus case, we were relieved to find that he would be back in Minnesota in 48 hours... but now he has been sent to Estancia, NM, and there are more roadblocks to manage. I cannot even try to explain the insanity of these roadblocks and our government's complete lack of processes. The saying "the right hand doesn't talk to the left" is an understatement.
For those of you lucky enough to know Oscar, you know what a hardworking, kind-hearted, and sincere person he is. He has done everything he can to follow all rules both in school and in government. He asks questions 2 and 3 times to make sure that he is not making any mistakes. He is one of the most conscientious and studious people I've had the pleasure of knowing. Education means everything to him.
When this ordeal began, there were six teachers who immediately wrote letters to his lawyer commending his character without hesitation. His lawyer was impressed. What student pulls A's in chemistry (actually all his classes) yet learns it in his second language? I will sum up this post by quoting a teacher that said, "If we don't want kids like Oscar here, who do we want?"
At this time, we do not know how much time or expense will be needed to get him home. If you feel inclined to support Oscar monetarily or by sharing this post, we Thank You!!
