Dear friends, family, and community,

I’m working directly with Nikki Dezonno (Filip's wife) raising funds for my friend and co-worker, Filip Czarnecki, a dedicated Lake Forest police officer who has spent his career serving and protecting the community. While on a personal vacation visiting family in Nicaragua, Filip suffered a tragic fall onto his head that caused a severe traumatic brain injury. He is now in critical condition in the ICU in León, Nicaragua, on a ventilator and in a coma.

Right now, Filip needs urgent help getting access to better medical care. A specialized international air ambulance transport to the United States is his best chance at recovery. Once back in Chicago, Filip can receive care from neurological doctors, better scans, and a more progressive and aggressive treatment needed to help heal his TBI and mitigate long-term neurological damage. His wife, sister, and mother are graciously asking for help to care for Fil and get him the best medical help possible during this crisis.

Emergency medical evacuations out of Central America are rarely covered by standard insurance and often require large upfront payment. At the same time, Filip's family is facing mounting out-of-pocket medical bills and international travel costs while staying close and fighting for the care he needs now.

Filip has spent his life stepping up for others in their hardest moments. Now he and his family need the community to step up for him. If you are able to donate, any amount will help.
