*This is our only fundraiser, we do not have any other.
On October 20th my husband was unlawfully detained by ICE without due process and was taken to a detention facility.
He came to the USA legally with a visa and he is not a degenerate, yet ICE is trying to criminalize his inability to leave during the COVID pandemic when everyone was on lockdown.
We are currently in the process of getting his green card and he was being detained during our appointment so I had to go alone.
Obi is a good person and doesn't deserve to be in a detention center with hardened criminals. I need my husband home with me because he is my caretaker. I have several chronic and debilitating diseases and rely on him daily.
He came to the U.S. playing professional soccer, and he currently participates in a couple of sports leagues on the East Coast. He pays his taxes and we are just an average family reaching for the American dream.
Last year, we celebrated his successful completion of CDL training and obtaining his license to drive a commercial tractor-trailer.
He attends church and rescues animals.
He loves Jesus and his family. He doesn't deserve to be detained unjustly, and we need to raise money so we can get him out of the facility and pay for his legal fees.
I haven't seen him since the morning of October 20th. I have tried to visit him twice, driving two hours just to be turned away the first time and then permanently banned from the privately run facility. There is no excuse for this type of unwarranted cruelty.
I've contacted my state representative and my Senator and Congressman.
We desperately need help!
Please consider donating, anything helps. We are trying to bring him home and fight for his right to a fair hearing. We are the American dream family, and we need your help to defend his constitutional right to stay and become a citizen.
God bless you all and thank you!
[EDIT Monday, November 17th]
HE WAS RELEASED!!!
I received a call and was informed they were letting him out!
*UPDATE NOVEMBER 29TH*
WE ARE WAITING FOR A LETTER FROM USCIS ABOUT THE INTERVIEW I ATTENDED WHILE HE WAS DETAINED.
(UPDATE 12/14/2022)
I obtained a loan in order to pay the bond. The loan has a 32% interest rate. He applied for a work permit but we are told it will take many months to get one because they are backed up with applications. I am the sole provider for our family now and I can't work because of my debilitating autoimmune diseases.
DHS decided to make him wear a gps ankle monitor as if he were a criminal. This further dehumanizes him and is completely unnecessary. Immigration issues are a civil issue and not a criminal one. We are legally unable to travel farther than 72 miles from our home together.
In order to pay our lawyers we are now considering selling our home.
USCIS is still reviewing my testimony from the interview I attended while Obi was in detention. They said we will receive a letter in the mail about their decision on his green card. As of 12/14 the letter has not yet arrived.
If ICE had released Obi after he posted bond then we would've had a fair chance to attend the green card interview together which is the normal process, but because they detained Obi for TEN DAYS after posting bond, and after a judge ordered his release, we are now frightened that he didn't get a fair chance to be considered for a green card. We will continue the updates as they happen. Please pray for us and the legal battles ahead.
